Django Amsterdam – The Global Gypsy Jazz Festival

‘Django Amsterdam’ will celebrate the legendary gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt’s birthday with a weekend of concerts, workshops and jam sessions right in the heart of old Amsterdam. Fans of the music from around the world will be able to watch all the action online via live streams making this a truly global festival.

The line up of world-class gypsy jazz artists is impressive for the premiere edition of the festival and includes Holland’s own gypsy guitar prodigy Paulus Schaefer with Grappelli fiddle master Tim Kliphuis. Finland’s young guitar virtuoso Olli Soikkeli will also be attendance as well as Amsterdam’s own gypsy jazz star Robin Nolan.

Kapitein Zeppos, which is located in the historic heart of Amsterdam, will host the festival providing the perfect atmospheric backdrop to the Django Amsterdam celebrations. As well as the concerts, which will take place in the cute ‘Claire’s Ballroom’, jam sessions will also kick off in the bar downstairs and run deep into the night.

Guitarists will be able to take advantage of some of the best teaching talent in the world with workshops by Paulus Schaefer, Olli Soikelli, Tim kliphuis, Thomas Baggerman and Robin Nolan taking place on site on the Saturday lunchtime.

Holland’s own master luthier Leo Eimers will also exhibit a collection of beautiful hand crafted gypsy guitars to add to the special Django Amsterdam atmosphere.
