About Sinti Music

Sinti Music verzorgt management, boekingen, verloning en support voor Sinti-bands. Sinti Music biedt theaters, festivals en evenementenorganisaties een breed scala van bands, die allen op een eigen wijze vorm geven aan hun passie muziek maken. Musici die op gevoel spelen; hun hart in de muziek leggen. Sinti Music Records brengt cd’s uit op haar eigen label. Sinti Music is gehuisvest in het Temporary Art Centre (TAC) in Eindhoven. Nederland. 

Sinti Music supports gipsy musicians. Sinti Music offers a varied selection of bands to theatres, festivals and event organizations. All these groups made their dreams come true to create unique music for a varied audience. Our musicians play passionate music from their hearts. Sinti Music is also publishing music on its own record label. Sinti muziek

Muziek is voor Sinti een expressiemiddel bij uitstek en van oudsher een belangrijk onderdeel van de Sinti cultuur. Gebleken is ook dat de samenleving deze muziek weet te waarderen, getuige bijvoorbeeld de bekendheid van Het Koninklijk Zigeunerorkest Tata Mirando, het succes van The Rosenberg Trio en het groot aantal Gipsy-festivals in binnen- en buitenland. Ook in films weet de gipsycultuur en met name de Sinti muziek door te dringen (Swing en Vengo van Tony Gatlif en When the Road Bends: Tales of a Gypsy Caravan van Jasmine Dellal.
Muziek is al eeuwen lang de taal van Sinti. Hun taal en hun muziek zijn ongeschreven, maar blijven niet langer meer ongehoord. Muziek gaat over van vader op zoon of van oom op neef. Vrijwel alles wordt geleerd op het gehoor en hun aangeboren gevoel voor muziek. Artistiek gezien beschikken Sinti muzikanten over rijk potentieel aan muzikale kwaliteiten en instrumentale vaardigheden. De karakteristieke razende tempi en het ‘ongeschoolde’ en virtuoze karakter van de optredens zijn bijzonder authentiek. Daarnaast is de wijze van spelen waarbij improvisatie een belangrijke rol speelt kenmerkend voor de muziek.

In de jaren dertig was het Django Reinhardt die met zijn revolutionaire gitaarspel de Hot Club de France introduceerde de muziekstijl die voor vele Sinti musici dient als inspiratiebron voor hun eigen muziek. In Nederland staat Zuid-Oost Brabant en met name Nuenen bekend als bakermat van menig gitaartalent. De traditie van de Nederlandse School van zigeunerswing, een zeer karakteristieke groepsjazz waar de ‘standards’ bijna altijd dezelfden zijn, een repertoire en een manier van spelen met nummers die onophoudelijk gespeeld en weer gespeeld worden totdat een hoog vertolkingsniveau bereikt is. Ondanks deze zo gecodeerde expressiestijl, blijft een creatief werk toch mogelijk, en kunnen gevoel en emotie tot uitdrukking worden gebracht. Steeds meer worden eigen composities door de musici gerealiseerd en zijn de ‘standards’ de maatstaf en de meetlat van hun kunnen.

Zuid-Oost Brabant staat in de wereld van de Hot Club de France muziek bekend om zijn Sinti–gitaartalenten, maar ook vanuit diverse jazz genres groeit hun reputatie. De Amerikaanse musicoloog / etnoloog Michael Horowitz heeft het boek "Gypsy Picking" geschreven, specifiek over de aanslagtechniek van de Nederlandse Sinti-mannen (Nuenen). Internationaal worden ze heel hoog aangeschreven. Ook In Frankrijk herkennen de meeste Sinto het Wasso-effect. (Wasso Grünholz is de leermeester van vele gitaristen uit Nuenen e.o.) Internationaal wordt gesproken over de Nederlandse School, waarmee ze de muziek van onze bands duiden.

Sinti Music staat midden in het hart van de Sinti-muziek en voortgekomen uit samenwerking met Sinti-musici.

By making music, Sinti can express their selves best and it has always been a very important part of the Sinti culture. Nowadays also modern society appreciates their music, e.g. Het Koninklijk Zigeunerorkest Tata Mirando (Royal Gipsy Orchestra Tata Mirando), the global success of The Rosenberg Trio and the many Gipsy music festivals (that start appearing) all over the world. Also the movie world has taken interest in Gipsy culture and especially Sinti music (e.g. Vengo and Swing by Tony Gatlif and When the Road Bends: Tales of a Gypsy Caravan by Jasmine Dellal).

Music has been the language of the Sinti for ages. Their language and music has never been written down, but were, are and will be heard forever. Music is given through by father to son, uncle to nephew and so on. Almost everything is done auditorial and their talent is a gift from mother nature. Artistically Sinti have a big potential regarding musical qualities and instrumental skills. The fast  pace, improvisations and the virtuosity are very special and this is why their music has an almost untouchable authenticity on stage which cannot be taught, it is in their veins.

During the 30’s Django Reinhardt introduced a new style of music known as Hot Club de France. His style of playing the guitar was far ahead of it’s time and this music is of great inspiration to many Sinti musicians.  In The Netherlands the core of this music is situated in Zuid-Oost Brabant and especially the city of Nuenen.

In the tradition of the Dutch School of gipsy-swing, making this type of jazz is a group-thing, where the standards are always the same, but by playing these standards on-and-on, in the end a high musically level is reached.  Despite this, almost encoded, way of  expressing, a very creative process has been put to work in which their own feel and emotion find a great balance.  Today, more Sinti musicians compose their own songs, but Django is still their hero and his work will always be the standard by which their songs are measured.

Zuid-Oost Brabant is famous for it’s large number of gifted Sinti (gipsy) musicians, especially in the Hot Club de France genre, but the interest from within different jazz genres is growing. All over the world the Sinti from Nuenen have a great reputation. This inspired the American musicologist and ethnologist Michael Horowitz to write the book "Gypsy Picking" specifically about Dutch Sinti musicians (Nuenen) and the technique they use when playing their guitars. Wasso Grünholz is a Dutch Sinto from these parts and his style is recognized by many Sinti musicians as far as France. He was also the tutor of many, like Stochelo Rosenberg and Paulus Schäfer. International they speak about the Dutch School, which they interpret the music of our bands.
