De Paulus Schäfer Gipsy Band brengt swingende jazz die zijn roots vindt in Django Reinhardt’s “Hot Club de France”; gipsy jazz met pop- en funk-elementen daarin verweven. Een topband voor hedendaagse gipsy jazz. Deze band speelt een pakkende sound met enorme energie en een uitgesproken persoonlijkheid. De musici zijn technisch virtuoos en produceren een karakteristieke swingjazz, die kenmerkend is voor de Nederlandse Gipsy Jazz. Het tempo ligt vaak hoog, maar staat altijd in proportie tot de arrangementen. Alles in het spel van sologitarist Paulus Schäfer is luchtig en zuiver. Als een combinatie van Stochelo Rosenberg en George Benson weet Paulus als geen ander te verdwalen in de bebop en verkent met zijn spel nieuwe horizonten.
Maar Paulus’ gitaarspel verklaart niet als enige het succes van deze band. Wat te denken van Sendelo Schäfer's boterzachte aanslag op ritmegitaar, ook zo kenmerkend voor de sound van deze band. Contrabassist Noah Schäfer manifesteert zich als een stuwende kracht, die zonder enige moeite de snelste en meest complexe stukken en solo’s speelt. Samen vormen Noah en Sendelo Schäfer een ijzersterke ritmesectie.
Hun debuutalbum “Into The Light” (2002) heeft direct een grote impact. Het geeft Paulus Schäfer en zijn Gipsy Band een prominente plaats in het boek ‘An Illustrated History of Gipsy Jazz’ van Michael Dregni. Hij wordt genoemd als één van de meest veelbelovende nieuwe artiesten. Vele optredens volgen op prestigieuze buitenlandse als binnenlandse podia, zoals
Django Fest North West, Langley (US), Sziget Festival Budapest (H), Khamoro Prague (CZ), International Gipsy Guitar Fesival Gossington (UK), Django Reinhardt Festival Samois-sur-Seine (FR), Gipsy Festival Anger (FR), en het International Gipsyfestival (NL). De track “After you’ve gone” is opgenomen op het dubbelalbum Jazz Manouche van Wagram Music Paris. In 2006 presenteert Paulus Schäfer Gipsy Band hun tweede cd “Desert Fire” in theater Het Klooster in Nuenen, de bakermat van de Nederlandse gipsy jazzscene. Met Tim Kliphuis en Nous’che Rosenberg wordt hard gewerkt aan een derde cd. Live speelt het trio vaak met verschillende gastmuzikanten, o.a. Feigeli Prisor, Tim Kliphuis en Wattie Rosenberg en zangeres Christien van Helden. Paulus Schäfer is eveneens een veel gevraagde gastmuzikant, die vaak samen met andere muzikanten, zoals Stochelo Rosenberg, Biréli Lagrène, Andreas Öberg, Jimmy Rosenberg, Feigeli Prisor etc. op de podia te vinden is.

Paulus Schäfer Gipsy Band brings forth a swinging form of jazz which finds it's origin in the style of Django Reinhardt's "Hot Club the France"; gipsy jazz combined with pop and funk elements.
An all round band representing the current gipsy jazz sound. The band has a catchy sound and an energetic vibe, with an outspoken personality.
The musicians are technical virtuoso's and they produce a distinctive swing jazz sound, which is a typical trademark of the Dutch Gipsy Jazz style. The pace is usually set high, but this complements the musical arrangements.
The lead guitarist; Paulus Schäfer's style defines itself as fresh and pure. He combines the styles of Stochelo Rosenberg and George Benson and he loses himself in the bebop sound and he eagerly explores new musical horizons.
But Paulus Schäfer is not the only success element of this band. The smooth touch of rhythm guitarist Sendelo Schäfer ads to the defining sound of the band. Noah Schäfer is the a force to be reckoned with as a double bass player. With confidence he plays not only the fastest pieces but also challenges himself by playing more complex pieces and impressive solo's. Noah and Sendelo Schäfer are the solid rhythm section of the band. Their debut album "Into the Light" (2002) immediately grabs the listener. It gave the Paulus Schäfer Gipsy Band a prominent spot in the book "an illustrated history of gipsy jazz" by the author Michael Dregni. Paulus Schäfer is currently described as one of the most promising rising artists in his style. The Paulus Schäfer Gipsy Band performed at many prestigious venues within the Netherlands and abroad, among which: Django Fest North West, Langley (US), Sziget Festival Budapest (H), Khamoro Prague (CZ), International Gipsy Guitar Festival Gossington (UK), Django Reinhardt Festival Samois-sur-Seine (FR), Gipsy Festival Anger (FR), and the International Gipsyfestival (NL). The track "After you've gone" is recorded and added to the album Jazz Manouche by Wagram Music Paris. In 2006 the Paulus Schäfer Gipsy Band presented their second album "Desert Fire". The album presentation took place in Nuenen, in a theatre called "het Klooster". This location is best described as the cradle of the Dutch gipsy jazz scene. At the moment the band is working on their third album in co-operation with Tim Kliphuis and Nous'che Rosenberg. The Paulus Schäfer Gipsy Band has invited and performed live with various musicians, a.o.: Tim Kliphuis, Feigeli Prisor, Wattie Rosenberg and singer Christien van Helden. Paulus Schäfer himself often gets invited to perform as a guest guitarist, in an ensemble with artists like: Stochelo Rosenberg, Biréli Lagrène, Andreas Öberg, Jimmy Rosenberg Feigeli Prisor and many others.
